This Notice explains the storage and access technologies PsychApply actually uses. We do not use advertising trackers or cross-site advertising cookies. Because the technologies we currently use are either strictly necessary to run the service or are device-side preferences you can clear yourself, we do not show a cookie consent banner. If that ever changes, we will obtain your consent before switching on anything that needs it.
1. What we use and why
- Authentication and session storage: to keep you signed in and keep your session secure while you use PsychApply. This is strictly necessary for the service to function.
- Local preferences (stored in your browser’s localStorage): for example your light/dark theme, your A-Level/Global track preference, your font-size setting, and a pending referral code when you arrive via a referral link. These are stored on your own device and you can clear them at any time.
- Service worker / Progressive Web App caching: PsychApply is installable as a web app and uses a service worker to cache navigation so the app loads reliably. This is a strictly-necessary performance feature and does not track you.
- Sign-in provider technologies: when you choose “Continue with Google” or “Sign in with Apple”, those providers’ own technologies apply during sign-in. Google and Apple set their own cookies on their domains; see their privacy policies for details.
- Stripe checkout: when you subscribe, Stripe’s checkout technology applies on Stripe’s domain for security and fraud prevention. Stripe sets its own domain cookies; we do not control these.
- Display font (Google Fonts): the app loads a Google font for display text. This is a presentation preference and does not identify you for advertising.
2. What we do NOT use
At the date of this Notice, PsychApply does not use:
- advertising or marketing cookies (for example Google Ads, Meta/Facebook Pixel);
- cross-site tracking or advertising networks;
- third-party analytics trackers (for example Google Analytics or similar) on the app.
If we add any non-essential analytics or marketing technology in future, we will not switch it on without a clear, prominent consent choice, and we will update this Notice first.
3. Do you need to consent to a cookie banner?
No. The storage we use is either strictly necessary for the service to work, or device-side preferences and caching that you can view and clear yourself, or technologies that belong to the sign-in/payment providers you choose to use (Google, Apple, Stripe) only during those interactions. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly-necessary and session functionality does not require a consent banner, and we do not use non-essential cookies that would require one. We therefore do not show a consent banner.
4. How to control or delete storage
- Your browser: you can view and delete cookies and site data (including localStorage and the service worker cache) in your browser or device settings, under site/cookies/storage for psychapplyacademy (or the app domain you use).
- Sign out: signing out and clearing site data removes your session from the device.
- Platform caching: the service worker updates itself automatically; if you ever see stale content, refresh or clear site data.
